Close Relationships

PPE - 2020
In an environment where they relied on a hand to hold - we are clad with gloves, where a smile brought comfort - our masks hide our faces. ‘PPE’ is an expression of my experience working in a nursing home during the pandemic. The rings seen in the painting represent the belongings that the residents come into our care with; their only reminders of their families, homes and lives in the outside world. This piece shows how despite the difficult circumstances we try to find normality in amidst the chaos.

Nelly in PPE - 2020
This painting was part of a mini series that looked into the experience of covid-19 and the impact it had on many individuals. These pieces explored how in a time where our physical health was so well taken care of, our mental wellbeing deteriorated.

Dennis - 2019
Dennis was one of the first portraits I began when looking into close relationships, with Dennis I was exploring loss and loneliness. As a widower, aspects of the biro drawing are missing, symbolic of the passing of his wife, as he re adjusts to his life living alone.
